Warming Centers & Hot Meals in San Antonio: Cold-Night Help (Winter 2026)

San Antonio winters fool people. Most days are mild — then one night the temperature drops below freezing and stays there. If your home loses heat or you're sleeping outside, that one night is the whole ballgame. Here's the honest map: what the city opens, who to call, and where the hot meals never stop.
One thing to know up front: the city does not keep a standing list of warming centers all winter. It announces them freeze by freeze. So what matters isn't memorizing addresses — it's knowing where tonight's list always shows up.
How to find tonight's warming centers — fast
When a freeze is coming, the City of San Antonio posts every open location and its hours on its cold-weather page, SA.gov/ColdWeather — look for the "Places to Stay Warm" map. No internet? Call 3-1-1 (from a cell phone: 210-207-6000). During the January 2026 freeze, the city kept 311 running 24 hours a day — and 311 works with VIA Metropolitan Transit to coordinate rides to warm places, not just read addresses. Don't let the lack of a car keep you in a cold house: in the January 2025 freeze, VIA passengers rode fare-free to or from the warming locations on buses or VIA Link (within the Link service zones), just by telling the bus operator when boarding.
The overnight Resilience Hubs — the city's six cold-night buildings
In both recent freezes — January 2025 and January 2026 — the city opened the same six community buildings as overnight Resilience Hubs: heated places to stay the night, with basic supplies, power and device charging, and free wi-fi. The lineup can change, so treat this as the usual list, not a promise — confirm at SA.gov/ColdWeather or by calling 3-1-1:
- Copernicus Community Center — 5003 Lord Road, 78220
- Garza Community Center — 1450 Mira Vista, 78228
- Miller's Pond Community Center — 6175 Old Pearsall Road, 78242
- Normoyle Senior Center — 700 Culberson, 78225
- Northeast Senior Center — 4135 Thousand Oaks, 78217
- Southside Lions Senior Center — 3303 Pecan Valley Drive, 78210
Headed to a hub? The city asks people to bring clothes, supplies, and medicine — and kennels are available for pets in a separate area.
Daytime warmth: libraries, senior centers, community centers
Overnight hubs are only half the picture. In the January 2026 freeze, the city said all of its senior centers would open as Places to Stay Warm, and all libraries and park community centers would serve as warm places during their regular hours. No purchase, no sign-up — just walk in during open hours and get warm.
One more warm room, open every weekday, freeze or not: Corazón Day Center & Resource Hub (504 Avenue E, San Antonio, TX 78215 · 210-238-5958) welcomes anyone experiencing homelessness or needing daytime rest. It's open 8:30 AM–4:00 PM Monday–Friday, with a hot lunch 12:00–1:00 PM, plus showers and help connecting to housing and care — all free.
If you're sleeping outside tonight
Call the city's Community Connections Hotline at 210-207-1799. During freezes it operates 24 hours, with up-to-date shelter information — and street outreach teams offer rides to shelter and hand out emergency blankets and supplies. In January 2026 the city and its partners also opened extra temporary overnight space, including the Bode Community Center (901 Rigsby Ave) alongside Communities Under the Bridge and Corazon SA. Pets were welcome at all of those shelter locations.
For a regular shelter bed — not just on freeze nights — the San Antonio Rescue Mission (907 E Quincy St · 210-222-9736) offers shelter, showers, and clean clothes for men 17 and older with a valid photo ID; check-in is 3:30–4:00 PM. And at Haven for Hope's campus (1 Haven for Hope Way), first-timers register at Intake, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.

If you have a home but the heat is the problem
Some cold nights happen indoors. The city's own space-heater rules: keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away, plug the heater directly into a wall outlet — never an extension cord or power strip — and turn it off when you sleep or leave. Never use a gas stove to warm your house, and never bring an outdoor grill inside; both can fill a home with carbon monoxide. The city sums up freeze prep as the 4 Ps: People, Pets, Plants, and Pipes.
Behind on the heating bill? Christian Assistance Ministry's downtown campus (110 McCullough Ave · 210-223-4099) offers food, clothing, utility and prescription assistance, and ID help — Monday–Thursday 9:30 AM–3:00 PM, Friday 9:30–11:30 AM; call first. You can also call 2-1-1 — the free 2-1-1 Texas line answers 24/7 and knows which utility-help programs are taking applications — and try San Antonio Benefits' free eligibility checker for programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and housing help.
Before the next freeze: five minutes of prep
