Free Thanksgiving Dinner in San Antonio (2026)

Neighbors sharing a free community Thanksgiving dinner in San Antonio

The holidays should be about togetherness — not about worrying where dinner comes from. Every year, churches, nonprofits, and community groups across San Antonio serve free Thanksgiving meals: turkey, all the fixings, and a warm place to sit down. If you'd like a seat at one of those tables this year, here's how to find it.

When Thanksgiving meals are announced

Most organizations announce their Thanksgiving plans in November — usually in the first two or three weeks of the month. That's when flyers go up, sign-up lists open, and serving times get posted.

If you're reading this in October, you're early — which is actually great. Mark your calendar to check back in early November, when this year's meals start appearing.

Where to look

  • Check back here. As 2026 Thanksgiving meals are announced, we'll be adding them to the directory. Hot meals is the best place to look.
  • Watch community posts. Churches and organizers post their free holiday events on our community board — new Thanksgiving dinners show up there first.
  • Call 2-1-1. The free 2-1-1 helpline keeps track of holiday meal programs across the city. One call can point you to the closest one.
  • Ask your neighborhood pantry. If you visit a food pantry, ask the volunteers — they almost always know who's serving Thanksgiving dinner nearby.

What to expect

  • A full traditional meal — turkey, dressing, sides, and dessert, served hot.
  • Dine-in or take-home. Some programs serve a sit-down dinner; others hand out boxed meals to take home. Both are free.
  • Everyone is welcome. These dinners are for the whole community — families, seniors, anyone spending the holiday alone, and anyone who just needs a meal.
  • Some ask you to sign up ahead. A few popular dinners take reservations so they can cook enough food. If you see a sign-up, grab your spot early.

Can't make it in person?

If getting to a dinner is hard — no car, working that day, health issues — you still have options. Many Thanksgiving programs hand out boxed meals to take home, no sit-down required. Some pantries also put together special holiday grocery bags in the weeks before Thanksgiving, with turkey and trimmings you can cook at home.

When you call 2-1-1 or check a listing, ask specifically about take-home options. And if you know a neighbor who can't get out, picking up a boxed meal for them is one of the kindest things you can do that week.

And after the holidays

Thanksgiving comes and goes, but hunger doesn't follow a calendar. If the holidays were hard — or if you found help this November and need it again in January — the same pantries and hot meal programs are there year-round. Our directory doesn't close after the holidays, and neither does the need it serves.

Bookmark this site. Tell a neighbor about it. And remember: asking for help with food is one of the most practical, sensible things a person can do.

Nobody should spend Thanksgiving hungry

However this year has gone, you deserve a warm meal and a kind table on Thanksgiving. San Antonio shows up for its neighbors every holiday season — and this year will be no different.
