Free Food on Sundays in San Antonio: Who's Open When Almost Everything Closes

A long community meal table set with breakfast plates and coffee in soft Sunday morning light

Let's be honest first: Sunday is the hardest day of the week to find free food in San Antonio. Most food pantries close on Sundays, and most church pantries run on weekday or Saturday schedules. If it's Sunday and the fridge is empty, the list below is short — but it is real, and every place on it serves on Sundays.

Sunday morning: breakfast at Faith Kitchen

Faith Kitchen at Haven for Hope — 1 Haven for Hope Way, San Antonio, TX 78207 · (210) 220-2100

Faith Kitchen serves three free hot meals every day of the year, Sundays included: breakfast 7:00–8:00 AM, lunch 11:30 AM–12:30 PM, and dinner 5:00–6:00 PM, in the Haven for Hope dining hall. It's open to all — no questions asked. First time? Register at Haven for Hope Intake (Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM).

Sunday brunch: Comfort Cafe (pay what you can)

Comfort Cafe — San Antonio (Bandera Rd) — 6812 Bandera Rd Suite 101, San Antonio, TX 78238 · (210) 501-9719

Comfort Cafe is a community restaurant run by SerenityStar Recovery, open Friday, Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM. It works on a pay-what-you-can basis for full brunch and lunch meals: a donation of $15 per meal is suggested, 100% of proceeds support the recovery program, and it's cash only. Open to all — pay what you can.

Sunday evening: two dinners that never skip a night

Communities Under the Bridge — 724 Chestnut St, San Antonio, TX 78202 · (210) 569-4026 (text only)

A hot dinner under the Hayes Street Bridge every single evening, 6:00–7:00 PM — Sundays included. All are welcome at this ministry, which has served unhoused neighbors for more than 25 years.

San Antonio Rescue Mission — 907 E Quincy St, San Antonio, TX 78215 · (210) 222-9736

A hot evening meal nightly at about 7:30–8:00 PM, after the chapel service, plus a light breakfast in the morning. The Rescue Mission serves men 17 and older with a valid photo ID; check in is 3:30–4:00 PM, and it also offers shelter, showers, and clean clothes.

Any hour on Sunday: call 2-1-1

United Way 211 Helpline — dial 2-1-1 or (877) 541-7905

One call connects you to food, housing, and help near you. Trained specialists answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including holidays. The call is free, confidential, and anonymous, and Spanish-speaking help is available. If a Sunday need doesn't fit the places above, 2-1-1 knows the smaller options we may not list.

The real Sunday strategy: stock up on Saturday

Because so little serves on Sunday, the best Sunday plan is made on Saturday. San Antonio has pantries and hot meals open across the city on Saturdays — see our guide to free food on Saturdays and the Saturday map to pick up groceries that carry you through Sunday. Then, whenever you need food, our open-now page shows what's serving at this exact moment, and the meal finder covers all 131 verified free-food places by ZIP code.
