Free Turkey Giveaways in San Antonio (2026)

Every November, thousands of free turkeys change hands across San Antonio — at food bank distributions, church drives, and community events. They go fast. If you want a take-home turkey for Thanksgiving 2026, start looking now. Here's where San Antonio's free turkeys come from and how to claim one.

San Antonio Food Bank holiday distributions

The San Antonio Food Bank (5200 Historic Old Hwy 90, 210-337-3663) runs holiday food distributions each November through its partner network, including its annual Food4SA November campaign. Many distributions require free advance registration through Fresh Trak — signing up early is the difference between getting a turkey and missing out. Call 210-337-3663 or search our free food directory for this season's distribution schedule.

The big free Thanksgiving dinner (no turkey needed)

If a take-home turkey doesn't work out, Thanksgiving dinner itself is covered: the 47th Annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner serves a free turkey dinner with all the fixings on Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Full details in our Thanksgiving meals guide.

Church and community turkey drives

In the two weeks before Thanksgiving, churches and nonprofits across Bexar County hold their own turkey giveaways — many announced only days in advance. Watch our directory and call the free 2-1-1 helpline in mid-November for the current list.

Tips for turkey day success

• Register early wherever registration is offered — Fresh Trak slots fill up.
• Go early on distribution day and bring bags or a cooler for the trip home.
• Bring a photo ID just in case, though most giveaways don't require one.
• Need food right now, not just Thanksgiving? Our directory lists year-round pantries and hot meals.
