Free Meal Delivery in San Antonio: Food Help for Neighbors Who Can't Leave Home

Not everyone who needs food help can get to a pantry. A broken hip, no car, a disability, or caring for someone around the clock can make "just drive over" impossible. The good news: real home-delivery food help exists in San Antonio — free delivered meals for homebound seniors and neighbors who can't leave home. Here is every verified delivery option in our directory, and how to get started.
The short list: who delivers

How homebound delivery usually works
Most delivered-meal programs are built for adults 60 and older who are homebound — unable to drive, and unable to shop or cook safely on their own. Meals on Wheels San Antonio serves homebound older adults across Bexar County (and, on a limited basis, disabled adults under 60). You apply once, by phone; after a short intake, volunteers deliver on a regular route. A contribution may be suggested — it is never required, and nobody is turned away for being unable to pay.
On the Westside, the House of Neighborly Service delivers its weekday senior lunch inside ZIP 78207 for neighbors with severe health issues. In the Hill Country, Meals on Wheels Kendall County delivers seven days a week from Boerne, and Meals on Wheels Medina County delivers from Hondo on Mondays through Wednesdays.
Not sure if you qualify? Ask by phone
You do not have to figure out eligibility alone. Call 2-1-1 (free, confidential, 24/7) and say you need food delivered to your home — they will match you with the program for your ZIP code and situation. Or call the programs above directly; a short phone conversation is the whole application for most of them.
Ordering for someone else
Many delivery clients are signed up by an adult child, a neighbor, or a home-health aide. If you are reading this for a parent or a neighbor who can't get out, you can make the first call for them — the programs above are used to exactly that call.
If you can get out, more options open up
