Free Food in Downtown San Antonio

Downtown is where San Antonio's food help is densest. One honest detail first: no verified listing sits inside the 78205 ZIP itself — instead, the help rings the center in 78201, 78202, 78207, and 78215, all within a short walk or bus ride of the middle of the city. Between them, you can find a meal or groceries every day of the week. Here's the downtown map.
Christian Assistance Ministry — two doors on McCullough Ave
At 110 McCullough Ave (78215), Christian Assistance Ministry's downtown campus runs two programs:
- Downtown pantry & services — food, clothing, and help with utilities, prescriptions, and IDs. Open Mon–Thu 9:30 AM–3:00 PM and Fri 9:30–11:30 AM. Call 210-223-4099 to confirm eligibility.
- Sack lunches — free lunches handed out Monday–Saturday, 9:00–11:00 AM, no appointment needed. About 1,500 go out every week, made for neighbors in crisis and people without shelter.
Corazón Day Center — weekday hot lunch
In Fetter Hall at Grace Lutheran Church, 504 Avenue E (78215), Corazón serves a scratch-made hot lunch 12:00–1:00 PM, Monday–Friday. The center is open 8:30 AM–4:00 PM with showers, rest space, and help connecting to housing and care — built for anyone experiencing homelessness or needing a safe place in the day. Call 210-238-5958.
Haven for Hope — meals every day of the year
Just west of downtown at 1 Haven for Hope Way (78207), two kitchens serve daily: Faith Kitchen (breakfast 7:00–8:00 AM, lunch 11:30 AM–12:30 PM, dinner 5:00–6:00 PM, every day of the year — 210-220-2100) and St. Vinny's Bistro (three hot meals daily, 365 days a year, free to anyone who walks in — 210-919-3195). If you need one address to remember downtown, make it this one.
East of downtown — dinner under the bridge
At 724 Chestnut St (78202), Communities Under the Bridge serves hot dinner 6:00–7:00 PM every evening (210-569-4026), and on Saturdays the lot fills up for Taking It to the Streets, a family-style dinner at 6:00 PM with clothing and haircuts (210-827-0398).
The Giving Fridge on Fredericksburg Rd
At 301 Fredericksburg Rd (78201), Blessing of Hands Ministries keeps a community giving fridge stocked with fresh food on a take-what-you-need basis. Fridge stock changes day to day, so it's best as a stop when you're already nearby — and our guide to community fridges explains how they work.
