Free Dinner in San Antonio: Where to Eat Tonight

Volunteers serving a hot free dinner to neighbors at outdoor tables at dusk in San Antonio

Most food help in San Antonio happens in the morning — pantries, distributions, senior lunches. But hunger doesn't keep office hours. If it's evening and you need a meal, you still have real options: hot dinners are served every single night of the week in this city, free, by people who expect you. Here is where dinner is, night by night.

Every night: Faith Kitchen at Haven for Hope

The most reliable dinner in San Antonio is at Faith Kitchen, 1 Haven for Hope Way, where dinner is served every day of the year, 5:00–6:00 PM — part of three free hot meals served daily in the Haven for Hope dining hall. It's open to all, no questions asked. New to the campus? Register at Haven for Hope Intake (Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM). Questions: 210-220-2100. On the same campus, St. Vinny's Bistro also serves three hot meals every day, 365 days a year — call 210-919-3195 for today's exact meal times.

Every evening: Communities Under the Bridge

At 724 Chestnut St, under the Hayes Street Bridge, Communities Under the Bridge serves a hot dinner 6:00–7:00 PM every evening. This ministry has fed unhoused neighbors for more than 25 years, and all are welcome — just show up. Call 210-569-4026 with questions.

Saturday night: Taking It to the Streets

Saturday nights, the same Chestnut Street lot hosts Taking It to the Streets: a family-style dinner served at 6:00 PM, rain or shine, wrapping up around 8:30 PM. Roughly 200–250 guests eat each week, and the evening includes clothing and haircuts alongside the meal. No registration needed — anyone hungry is welcome. Call 210-827-0398.

Nightly, for men: San Antonio Rescue Mission

The San Antonio Rescue Mission, 907 E Quincy St, serves a hot evening meal around 7:30–8:00 PM nightly, after the chapel service, with a light breakfast in the morning. This program is for men 17 and older with a valid photo ID; check-in is 3:30–4:00 PM and the chapel service comes before the meal. Shelter, showers, and clean clothes are also part of the mission. Call 210-222-9736.

How to pick tonight's dinner

  • Earliest dinner: Faith Kitchen at 5:00 PM — also the only one that runs literally every day of the year.
  • No ID, no sign-up, no questions: Faith Kitchen, St. Vinny's Bistro, and Communities Under the Bridge.
  • Saturday: you have two choices at 724 Chestnut St — the nightly 6:00 PM dinner and the bigger Taking It to the Streets gathering.
  • Men needing shelter too: the Rescue Mission pairs the meal with a bed — but arrive for the 3:30–4:00 PM check-in.

Before you go

Evening programs are smaller than the big daytime distributions, so arriving a little early is smart — and hours can shift on holidays, so a quick call ahead never hurts. For everything else the city serves after dark and before it, browse hot meals, check what's open now, or search the full directory by ZIP code. Nobody in San Antonio has to end the day hungry.
